The Brief: 


Y&R New York is looking for a Global Planning Director with a keen strategic sensibility to position a global brand for growth. This person will work alongside some sharp, imaginative minds to uncover and translate insights into BIG brand platform ideas and action. Our dream team member not only knows how to create famous brands, but also knows how to inspire clients beyond their comfort zone.


  • Strong understanding of research tools and a desire to learn and apply Y&R proprietary planning tools – i.e., BAV, Brand Energy, eXploring, etc.
  • Able to mine relevant insights that speak to consumer behavior, culture and brand or product truths
  • Comfortable guiding the development of creative stimulus for positioning concept testing that will not only perform well in research, but also in market
  • Be the “honest broker,” engendering respect to persuade clients to operate outside conventional wisdom and comfort zone
  • Able to craft creative briefs with clarity, brevity and fertility to inspire internal and external teams to concept, develop and implement their best ideas 
  • Partners with senior global and clients, guiding them through strategic recommendations with conviction and rigor, becoming an indispensable asset to our partners
  • Understands the fundamental patterns of buying behavior so it can translate business objectives into realistic marketing objectives
  • A future focused view of relevant cultural trends and the ability to find tension in our world to spark strategic and creative solutions
  • An understanding how people respond to the same communications in different contexts (and on different devices), and why they will tune out in some contexts and pay close attention in others
  • Manages the career development of junior planners while enhancing their overall skill sets


We’d love it if you:

  • Have +10 years of related experience in strategic planning, with a strong emphasis on brand planning
  • Healthcare experience is ideal, but CPG or other client experience is welcome
  • Experience guiding original research testing for positioning concepts and creative campaign ideas to result in ultimate success with consumers and the business alike when in market
  • Have strong knowledge of how to measure and grow consumer-based brand equity
  • The ability to crossover between the principles of channel planning, content strategy, engagement strategy and brand strategy
  • Experience working on global brands, and an understanding of the challenges that come with a local / global operating model
  • A self-starter, with a strong sense of initiative and ability to work under pressure
  • Detail-orientated, with excellent follow-through and self-management
  • A thorough understanding of interagency workings
  • Extra bonus: Speaks French and loves Paris
